BOX SCORENEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego women's lacrosse team defeated New Paltz by a score of 16-10 on the road Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers move to 10-5 overall and 3-4 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks fall to 4-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Oswego struck first on a goal by
Erannan Shattuck a little over three minutes into the game. After New Paltz tied it at one apiece, Oswego scored five of the next six goals to take a 6-2 lead.
Emily Lange netted three during the spurt while
Kassie Kleine and
Esther Gabriel also scored.
New Paltz closed the gap to 6-4 with five minutes remaining in the first half but Oswego answered with three goals in the final three minutes.
Lindsey Eggers,
Becky Guess and Lange each tallied a goal in that span to give the Lakers a 9-4 edge at the break.
New Paltz came out hot in the second half, scoring four of the first five goals to close the gap to 10-8. Eggers had the lone goal during that stretch on an assist from Gabriel.
Oswego again had an answer, putting up the next four goals to push the advantage to a game-high six at 14-8. Eggers,
Kelsey Henderson, Gabriel, and Lange all scored, respectively, to put the game out of reach. New Paltz would score two before Gabriel notched her third and Eggers her fourth to end the scoring.
Lange and Gabriel each had six points on the afternoon while Eggers added five. Eggers and
Kaila Curatalo each had three ground balls to lead the team.
Nikki Greco saved 15 shots on the day and Oswego was 16-for-17 on clear chances. Gabriel and
Megan McNulty helped Oswego win 20-of-28 draws in the contest.
Oswego is back in action at Elmira at 4 p.m. on Thursday before traveling to Oneonta on Saturday for its SUNYAC finale.
