Postseason Games Highlight Eventful Weekend

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State athletic department is set for another electrifying weekend, as nine teams prepare for play. Winter sports are in the midst of playoff competition while spring sports look to get their regular seasons underway.

The men's basketball team continues to impress, recently claiming the SUNYAC Championship title and moving into the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Lakers draw a 5:30 p.m. contest against Calvin College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Oswego takes a three-game winning streak into the first round of the tournament.

The men's ice hockey team travels to Plattsburgh this weekend to rival the Cardinals in the SUNYAC Championship title game. The showdown features No. 1 Plattsburgh and second-seeded Oswego in what is destined to be a classic hockey game in a winner-takes-all contest. The Lakers and the Cardinals last met on Feb. 20 for Oswego's whiteout weekend, in which the two squads left the ice in a knotted 3-3 match. This will be the sixth time in the last eight years that these teams have met in the SUNYAC Final. The top-seeded squads will face-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

Women's hockey returns to the ice as well against the rival Cardinals this weekend, with the two teams clashing in the semifinals of the ECAC West Championship tournament at Elmira. The Lakers edged out six-seeded Cortland to push the squad into the semifinals against No. 2 Plattsburgh. The two squads will face-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Men's tennis is ready to get back into the swing of things as it prepares for a two game series this upcoming weekend. The Lakers will travel to Buffalo to compete against D'Youville College at 7 p.m. on Friday. Following Friday's game, Oswego will then head over to Elmira for a 1 p.m. bout against the Soaring Eagles on Sunday. The Lakers (2-2), who haven't played since Oct. 25, will look to start the second half of the season off on good footing.

The men's and women's track and field programs will make their way to New York City to participate in the 2015 ECAC Division III Track and Field Championships at the Armory Track and Field Center. Events begin at 11 a.m.

With its first two games of the season cancelled, the men's lacrosse team will travel to Uniondale, New York to challenge Maritime College at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The baseball team will begin its regular season with two double-headers this weekend in Norfolk, Virginia. The Lakers have a tall task for their first opponent, as they match up twice against No. 13 Rowan University at the Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday. Games will be played at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The second two-game series comes against Virginia Wesleyan College. Game times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The women's lacrosse team readies for its third match of the season. At 1-1, and coming off a high-scoring 11-9 losing affair with Rochester Institute of Technology, the Lakers look to rebound this upcoming weekend. They'll travel to oppose Houghton College for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday.
