BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team swept D'Youville College 9-0 on the road Friday night. The win marks the team's first victory in the spring season and brings its overall record to 3-2. D'Youville falls to 0-1.
Alex McCarthy secured a point at first singles, playing a tough match that was eventually won 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. After that match it was smooth sailing for the Lakers as
Ryan Korn took second (6-2, 6-4),
Spencer Thorn winning third (6-1, 6-0) and
John Stanford knocking off the Spartans fourth (6-4, 6-1). Singles matches were rounded out with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins delivered by Tim Van Hine and
Justin D'Antonio at fifth and sixth, respectively.
The team found similar success in the doubles matches, taking all three on the night. McCarthy and
Brian Lyudmer nabbed first, winning 8-6. Thorn and Van Hine went on to take second 8-0 as did D'Antonio and John Matros who won by the same score.
Men's tennis will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Sunday as it travels to Elmira to take on the Soaring Eagles.
