Lakers Earn Second-Straight Winning Season

UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team defeated Utica College 8-1 Wednesday evening at Turning Stone. With the win, the tennis team concludes its season, finishing with an 8-7 record. This ties the 2013-14 season for the most wins in the last decade. Utica College moves to 1-9 on the year. Also, the team dedicated its victory to childhood cancer awareness, sporting yellow jersey's for childhood cancer and lavender for all cancers.

Oswego made no mistake, collecting all three doubles wins to start the match. John Matros and John Stanford led the Lakers with an 8-0 win at third, followed closely by both the first (Alex McCarthy and Brian Lyudmer) and second (Spencer Thorn and Timothy Van Hine) doubles teams, who both won 8-1.

The team rolled its momentum into singles as the bottom half of the line-up all won without giving up a game. Thorn at fourth, Matros at fifth and Ian Pouchard at sixth all blanked their Pioneer opponents 6-0, 6-0. Alex McCarthy notched his 11th win at first singles, defeating Utica's Dom Trimochi 6-1, 6-1. Ryan Korn picked up the team's final point at third winning by the same score.
