HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team fell 7-2 to Houghton College Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Lakers drop to .500 (5-5) on the season. The Highlanders improve to 4-6 on the year.
After dropping the all three doubles matches, Oswego gained a spark with a point at first singles.
Alex McCarthy fell 6-2 in the first set, before coming back and winning 6-3 in the second. In the tie breaker, the junior dominated, defeating his Highlander opponent 10-3. The Lakers other point on the evening came in another three set battle.
John Stanford took down Houghton's Dan Hammers 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 at sixth singles.
Justin D'Antonio almost stole another point as he split the first two sets 4-6, 6-1. He was defeated in the tie breaker though, by a score of 10-1.
Men's tennis returns to the courts at noon on Sunday as the team hosts Hartwick College.
