Oswego's first win this season, giving the team a 1-0 record. The Highlanders move to 0-1 on the year.
Two points were earned in doubles, helping get the team off to a good start.
Alex McCarthy and
Sam McGrath took home first doubles 8-3, while
Nick Retzkin and
Brian Emigholz teamed up to win third doubles 8-2.
With the 2-1 lead going into singles, Oswego was able to keep the momentum going. McCarthy at first and McGrath at second earned the Lakers two more points, winning 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively.
Soeren Wittland earned his first collegiate win defeating his Highlander opponent 6-3, 6-1. The final point of the day came from
Tyler Buxbaum who snagged a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fifth.
Freshman
Ariel Kovesi almost secured his first win as a Laker at third singles as he won the first set 6-2. Kovesi then found himself down 5-1 in the second set only to push that to a seven-point tie break where he eventually fell 20-18. The two played a super-set to 10 points to decide the third set, with the Highlander's Conner Barnes nabbing the victory 10-8.
Men's tennis will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as the team hosts Elmira College at the Romney Tennis Courts.
