RESULTSOSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State tennis team defeated Elmira College 7-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Romney Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the win, the Lakers remain unbeaten at 2-0. The victory also marks the first victory against the Soaring Eagles in nine matches (eight years).
After earning one point from a third doubles forfeit, Oswego capitalized by winning the other two.
John Stanford and
Jon Matros teamed up to come back from down 5-1 at second to eventually win 9-7.
Alex McCarthy and
Sam McGrath rolled through their opponents at first 8-1.
McGrath took his momentum into singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 at second.
Nick Retzkin played a long match at fifth, eventually pulling out a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Men's tennis returns to the courts at 12 p.m. on Oct. 4 as the team heads to Alfred University to take on the Saxons.
