ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team got back on the right track with a 5-4 over Elmira College Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-1 on the season, while Elmira moves to 5-5.
Oswego found itself in the hole early as Elmira took two of the three doubles matches.
Alex McCarthy and
Sam McGrath picked up only the only point, defeating the Soaring Eagles' first doubles squad 8-5.
In singles, the Lakers excelled picking up the four points needed to secure the win. McGrath took first singles 6-1, 6-1 followed by another easy win at second from McCarthy (6-3, 6-0). Oswego looked to the bottom of the lineup for the last two points beginning with
Nick Retzkin who took fifth 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Spencer Thorn then went the distance at third, locking up his individual match, and the team match, winning 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-3.
Men's tennis returns to action after the spring break, hosting St. John Fisher College at 4 p.m. on March, 31.
