UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team defeated Utica College 6-3 Wednesday afternoon on the road. With the win, Oswego goes to 11-2 on the year and increases its win streak to five-straight. The Pioneers fall to 1-7 on the season.
In doubles play, Oswego snagged two points including a commanding 8-0 victory at third by
John Stanford and
Tyler Buxbaum. The other point was earned through comebac
K, FUELed by great teamwork between
Alex McCarthy and
Spencer Thorn at first.
The bottom of the order began singles play, starting with a Buxbaum at sixth with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Brian Emigholz (5th) and
Jon Matros (4th) both won with ease as well, claiming dropping just one game between the two. Thorn also chipped in at second doubles, downing his Pioneer counterpart 6-2, 6-1.
Stanford (3rd) and McCarthy (1st) both fought hard in their respective slots but fell in close three-set battles.
Men's tennis will close out its season at 4 p.m. on Thursday as the team travels to Keuka College to take on the Wolfpack.
