PENN YAN, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team finished its regular season with a 9-0 shutout of the Keuka College Wolfpack Thursday afternoon on the road. With the win, the Lakers finish the year with a 12-2 record, the best in program history. Keuka falls to 1-11 on the season.
The Lakers started off quickly as the third doubles team of
Spencer Thorn and
Jon Matros defeated their opponents 8-0 in under 20 minutes. Oswego picked up the other two points with a decisive 8-3 win at first from
Sam McGrath and
Alex McCarthy and an 8-2 victory at second from
John Stanford and
Ryan Korn.
Oswego's single play matched its doubles, winning all six slots with ease. McCarthy (2nd), Korn (3
rd), Thorn (4
th) and
Tyler Buxbaum (6
th) all defeated their Wolfpack opponents without dropping a single game. McGrath picked up an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win at first, completing his first year as a Laker undefeated at first singles.
Matros grabbed the last point of the match at fifth, winning a close first set 6-4 before shutting him out 6-0 in the second.
