WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Oswego State wrestling team opened the Budd Whitehill DIII Duals – hosted by Lycoming College – on Friday with three matches against ranked opposition. Oswego dropped its first match 25-15 to No. 25 York College (Pa.), lost its second match 26-12 to No. 20 Ohio Northern University before upsetting No. 23 Springfield College 28-21. By collecting a 1-2 mark on day one at the Whitehill Duals, the Lakers are now 3-6 in head-to-head matchups this year.
 
Oswego was led by Jordan Bushey on the day, going a perfect 3-0 over the three duals. The nationally seventh-ranked 184-pounder opened the day with a 3-0 decision over York's Jackson Drum. He followed that with an 8-1 decision over ONU's Clayton Davidson before capping his day with a 12-2 major decision in the Lakers' upset of the Pride.
 
Four Lakers collected two wins and of those, only Kade Andrews and Joey Bush ended without a blemish on their records. Andrews wrestled at 285 for Oswego's first two duals, winning both. The sophomore pinned Julian Albero of York in 5:00 before recording a 7-1 decision against ONU's Kristofer Kristofferson. Bush sat out the middle dual and tallied a 5-2 decision at 149 against York and posted an 8-0 major decision over Springfield.
 
Also with a pair of victories was Evan Corso. The 133-pounder was stellar in all three duals, with his only loss coming 6-4 to the weight class's second-ranked wrestler. After dropping the decision to No. 2 Ryan Flynn of York, Corso picked up an 8-3 decision against ONU and pinned his Springfield counterpart in 5:45.
 
Trevor Hoffmier was the other Laker with two triumphs on Friday. The 157-pounder began with a 5-0 shutout of York's Chad Wickard and ended by picking up six points for Oswego in a forfeit by Springfield.
 
Other Lakers with victories were Rocco Russo at 149 against ONU and Jeff Lombardi at 174 against Springfield. Russo won a 5-1 decision while Lombardi capitalized with a 15-5 major against the Pride's Geovanni Medina.
 
The Whitehill Duals will continue on Saturday, with information on those matches yet to come.
