OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team defeated the Hartwick Hawks 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon inside Romney Fieldhouse. Oswego returns to .500, improving to 3-3, while Hartwick falls to 0-2 on the year.

Oswego got off to a fast start in doubles, claiming all three of the matches. The teams of Chris Gayvert and Brian Emigholz as well as Nick Retzkin and Tyler Buxbaum at second and third doubles cruised past their Hawk counterparts, respectively. The first duo earned the 8-2 victory, while the latter pair won 8-1.

At first doubles, John Stanford and John Matros earned a much closer 8-6 win. The team traded breaks with Hartwick to open the match, before the Lakers surged ahead. Oswego nabbed the last break to claim a 5-2 lead and eventually the victory.

In singles competition, after the Hawks took the first two matches, Oswego turn the tide and swept the final solo contests. Gayvert, Emigholz, Retzkin and Terzian all played to straight-set victories.

Gayvert took the first by a break and then had to battle to earn the second set and the win in a tiebreak. The final three matches were much more routine as no Laker player surrendered more than four games in a set.

Oswego returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon as the Lakers head to Pittsford, N.Y. for a contest against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College.
