PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team fell 9-0, on the road at St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon. Oswego falls to 3-4 on the year, while the Cardinals improve to 1-6.
Oswego was unable to solve the Cardinals on Saturday as the home team swept both doubles and singles play. After falling quickly in first doubles, the Lakers put up a fight at second. The team of
Brian Emigholz and
Chris Gayvert, pushed Fisher to the brink, but a late break of serve game the Cardinals the 8-6 win.
In single competitions, Gayvert pressed his opponent in the opening set, falling by a single break 6-3. He would eventually succumb by a 6-1 score in the latter stanza. At fourth and fifth doubles,
Tyler Buxbaum and Emigholz held their own, providing quite the challenge.
Buxbaum started out slowly, allowed the Fisher foe to grab the opening set by a 6-2 tally, but rallied in the second. The junior forced the set to extra play, winning five games prior to getting broken and falling 7-5. Emigholz was competitive in both sets, falling to the tune of a single break of serve 6-4 and 7-5.
Oswego returns to the tennis courts at 2 p.m. on Saturday for its second of three-straight road contests, when it travels to Clinton, N.Y. to play Hamilton College.
