Baseball Tabbed NCAA NY Regional's Top Seed

NCAA RELEASE  |  REGIONAL SCHEDULES

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Oswego State baseball team has earned the No. 1 seed in the New York Regional of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship. New York's regional will feature six teams and is hosted by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) at Onondaga Community College's Baseball Complex in Syracuse, N.Y. The tournament will begin on Thursday, May 18 and conclude on Sunday, May 21, with the region's winner punching a ticket to the College World Series in Appleton, Wisc. the following weekend.

Oswego is joined by the following five institutions, preceded by their regional seeding: No. 2 University of Southern Maine, No. 3 The College of New Jersey, No. 4 Tufts University, No. 5 Castleton University and No. 6 Ithaca College. The top-seeded Lakers will partake in the regional's first game – slated for 11 a.m. on Thursday – against the Bombers of Ithaca. Southern Maine and Castleton will face one another at 2:30 p.m. while Thursday will close with TCNJ versus Tufts at 6 p.m. Outcomes of Thursday's games will determine matchups for Friday, which is scheduled to feature three more contests.

The Lakers earned one of the 56 spots in this year's tournament by claiming the SUNYAC's automatic berth by being conference champion. Also earning automatic bids were Ithaca (Empire 8 Champion), Tufts (NESCAC Champion), Castleton (NAC Champion) and TCNJ (NJAC Champion). Southern Maine collected one of just 13 at-large Pool C bids after finishing third in the Little East Conference's Championship Tournament.

Of the six teams, five appear in the most recent D3baseball.com national rankings. Oswego is the highest ranked at No. 7 while Tufts (No. 13), TCNJ (No. 19) and Southern Maine (No. 20) are inside the top 25. Castleton is receiving three votes in the poll.

Make sure to visit the athletics website or the Lakers' social media sites to stay up-to-date on any tournament action, including scores, links to follow games, game times and matchups.
