APPLETON, Wisc. – The top-seeded Oswego State baseball team is prepared to make its first appearance in the NCAA Division III College World Series at 1:15 p.m. (CDT) on Friday against eighth-seeded Roanoke College.
Oswego enters the eight-team, double-elimination tournament as the New York Regional Champion at 32-9 and ranked seventh in the latest D3baseball.com poll and No. 9 in ABCA/Rawlings' current rankings. The Maroons ride into the championship at 33-17 after winning the South Regional as a sixth – and final – seed. Roanoke was receiving two votes in the latest ABCA/Rawlings poll and did not appear in D3baseball.com's.
The eight teams are split into two four-team pools and pool play goes Friday through Sunday (May 26-28). After a team from each pool emerges they will play a best-of-three series that concludes on Tuesday (May 30) or Wednesday (May 31).
Friday's other Pool A opening round game will feature fourth-seeded Concordia University Chicago (33-11) facing Washington & Jefferson College (38-11) at 10 a.m.
Pool B games get underway at 4:30 p.m. Friday with second-seeded UMass Boston (37-10) battling seventh-seeded North Central College (29-16). Opening day concludes with third-seeded California Lutheran University (35-10) taking on Wheaton College (27-15) at 7:45 p.m.
