Men's Lax to Host Utica for St. Baldrick's Game

3/26/2018 2:26:00 PM

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team will host Utica College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for its St. Baldrick's game. At the contest, there will be banners, brochures, wristbands, and information about how to make a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, the world's largest private (non-government) funder of childhood cancer research grants.

Members of the men's lacrosse team are no strangers to the cause.  The team started its own St. Baldrick's head-shaving fundraiser back in 2007, and the team has played a part in the annual event ever since.  Last year, 40 members of the team – and coaching staff – registered as shavees or volunteers, and together they raised nearly $5,000.

The team's fundraising website shows almost $2,500 raised so far.  There's still two and half weeks before shavees "Brave the Shave," and donations can still be accepted long after the April 15 event.

Utica is involved in this year's event as a local high school boy with connections to both teams is currently fighting cancer. The friends and family of that player have formed "Team #22" for the St. Baldrick's Day in Oswego and currently lead all fundraising teams at just $80 short of its $5,000 goal.

Anyone wanting to learn more about the St. Baldrick's Foundation, make a donation, or register as a shavee can go to www.stbaldricks.org.
