BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Seniors Shaniece Gregory and Catarina Burke each took top honors in events at the 2019 Brockport Season Opener as the Oswego State men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2019-20 campaign.

THE BASICS
  • Location:  Special Events Recreation Center - Brockport, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gregory took first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.81 in a field of 16 runners.  She later returned to take second in the 200-meter dash in 27.24 seconds.  Her time in the 400-meter run ranks her 18th in the country in the early going.
  • Burke won the women's high jump with a mark of 1.59 meters and also took a top-5 in the women's 60-meter dash, finishing in fourth with a time of 8.42 seconds in the final.
  • In the women's 5,000-meter run, sophomore Hannah Hertik took second in 19:51.87 and classmate Emily Blake was fifth.
  • Senior Sarah Yensan, 2019 Outdoor Track and Field national qualifier, grabbed a third in the long jump (5.50 meters) and a fourth in the triple jump (10.78 meters).  Her distance in the long jump currently ranks her third in the nation in the early going among all Division III athletes.
  • Freshman Amelia Alexander took second in the 3,000-meter run in 12:08.49 and fellow newcomer Ashleigh Lacy was seventh in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.74.
  • In throwing action, sophomore Lindsay Fluman took eighth in both the shot put (10.34 meters) and the weight throw (11.94 meters).
  • For the men, sophomore Matthew Barbookles had the top finishes with a second in the men's 800-meter run in 2:02.35 and a third in the 3,000-meter run in 9:12.74.
  • Senior Eric Perez was also in the top-10 in the 3,000-meter run with a ninth-place finish.
  • Oswego had a pair of top-10's in the men's high jump as freshman Keeghan Savior (1.81 meters) and sophomore Kyle Sorbello (1.81 meters) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
  • Freshman Gabriel Winters-Bona took a fifth in the 3,000-meter run and another fifth in the 5,000-meter run.
  • In the pole vault, sophomore Nathan Jennings was fifth at 3.80 meters.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers return to action on New Year's Day when they head to RIT for an invitational and a 10 a.m. start time.
