Gregory Breaks Laker Record on Day 1 of SUNYAC

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior Shaniece Gregory set a new school record in the women's 200-meter dash as she qualified for the finals of that, and the 400-meter dash, on Day 1 of the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Brockport.  Gregory's time of 26.08 seconds lowers the school record and qualifies her for the All-Atlantic Regionals held next weekend.

  • Day 1 Men's Scores:  2 Points (5-of-17 scored events)
  • Day 1 Women's Scores:  2 Points (6-of-17 scored events)
  • Location:  Special Events Recreation Center – Brockport, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gregory started the day by setting a new personal indoor best in the women's 400-meter dash opening round, finishing with the second fastest time of 58.98 seconds.
  • That time also qualifies her for next week's All-Atlantic Regional and is the third best in Oswego history, behind Carly Vreugde's record of 58.06 seconds.
  • Sophomores Hannah Hertik and Emily Blake finished 10th and 13th, respectively, in the women's 5,000-meter run.
  • In the shot put, sophomore Lindsay Fluman finished in 12th with a throw of 10.56 meters.
  • Freshman Ashleigh Lacy ran a 26.86-second 200-meter dash time to finish in 14th.
  • Junior Amare Greer ran the fourth-fastest time (7.24 seconds) in Oswego history in the men's 60-meter dash to qualify for tomorrow's final.
  • Sophomore Kevin Mitchell ran an 8.63-second 60-meter hurdle time to earn a spot in the final as well as qualify for next week's All-Atlantic Regional.
  • Mitchell's time is second best in Oswego history in the event.
  • In the men's pole vault, sophomore Nathan Jennings just missed out on team points with a ninth-place finish and mark of 4.10 meters.
  • Junior Brandon Fallat earned 10th in the men's shot put and teammate Michael Saavedra was 14th.
  • Sophomore Matthew Barbookles finished 12th in the men's 800-meter run in 2:00.70.
  • Both the men's and women's distance medley relay teams finished in seventh place to score team points on the opening day.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego returns to action tomorrow at 9 a.m. back in Brockport for the final events of the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
