Track & Field's Dynamic Duo Strike Again

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Behind two new school records from seniors Sarah Yensan and Catarina Burke, the women's track and field team finished sixth of 16 teams at the Brockport Golden Eagle Multi & Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yensan actually broke the school record in the long jump twice today.  On her fourth jump of the competition, she flew 5.61 meters (18' 5") to eclipse her mark of 5.58 meters from a week ago.
  • On her very next jump, she cleared a distance of 5.80 meters (19-0' ½") in setting a new personal-best in either indoor or outdoor (5.74m) and giving her the meet victory.
  • Her distance has her sitting second nationally on the qualifying lists and in good shape to earn a second opportunity to compete at the National Championships.
  • Yensan returned to the field for a fifth in the women's triple jump and a mark of 10.69 meters.
  • Burke set her own career-best in breaking the school's high jump mark set back in 2007 by Shannon Myers.
  • The Raynham, Mass. native cleared a height of 1.64 meters (5' 4.5") to take second on the afternoon, an inch and a half above her previous collegiate-best.
  • Burke's mark now has her inside the top-20 in the nation in the event.

  • Fellow senior Shaniece Gregory scored 10 points for the team with a fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.77 seconds) and a fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.27.
  • Lindsay Fluman was fifteenth (of 39) in the shot put at 10.07 meters and twelfth (of 35) in the weight throw (12.56 meters).
  • The men scored their points via the 4x400-meter relay as Christopher Dorney, Ousmane Diallo, Kevin Howard and Collin Gilligan ran a time of 3:39.52 to finish in eighth.
  • Sophomore Nathan Jennings finished just outside the top-10 in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.95 meters.
  • Amare Greer (twelfth) and Diallo (twenty-fifth) were both in the top half of the 58-runner 200-meter dash field.

Oswego heads west on Friday for the RIT Midseason Meet and a 4 p.m. start time.
