OSWEGO, NY- The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2023-24 Men's Golf All-Conference awards on Thursday, April 18. Head Coach Mike Howard was named the E8 Coach of the Year. While Conor Tierney, Tyler Donohue and Gavin Neuland all landed on second team all-conference.
 
The awards were based on results from the 2023-24 Empire 8 Championship, in which the first two rounds took place on Oct. 8-9 at Cazenovia Country Club in Cazenovia, NY and final 36 holes were played April 13-14 at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA. 
 
Conor opened the tournament in the fall with a score of 82 (+11) and on day two he improved to 79 (+8). In his third round of the tournament, Conor Tierny finished tied for fifth shooting 83 (+12), he finished up in round four with 85 (+14) in his final round. Conor is a grad student on the men's gold team and is from Point Pleasant, NJ.
 
Donohue's first round concluded with a score of 81 (+10) and increased by one stroke on day two to 82 (+11). Tyler started the championship tournament in the spring with an 85 (+14) in round three. In round four he improved to a score of 82 (+11). Donohue is in his junior season with the Lakers and is from Bristol, CT.
 
Neuland's first round in the fall was an 81 (+10), he followed that up with an 83 (+12) on day two. Gavin started off round three of the championships with a score of 86 (+15) and he made a major improvement on day two, dropping his score to an 80 (+9). Gavin is a graduate student with the Lakers and is from Oswego, NY.
 
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2023-24 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen. Congratulations to Tyler Donohue on being named to the Men's Golf Sportsmanship team!
 
Head Coach Mike Howard was also recognized by the conference this season. He was named Head Coach of the year for Empire 8 Men's Golf. This season Coach Howard led the team to three second team all-conference nominations. This is the same Coach Howard who will be inducted into the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his lifetime service to wrestling on September 29, 2024.
