How It Happened
The Lakers set the tone early as the distance squads opened the afternoon with major point swings. Izzy Dague and
Emily Seldin delivered a crucial 1–2 finish in the women's 1000 free, while on the men's side Jake Sarnowski,
Antonio Medina, and
Ryan Murphy stacked valuable points with second, third and fifth in their 1000.
Momentum continued to build in the 200 free events, where
Jayna Laferriere dominated her race in 2:01.34 before returning later to win the 100 free as well. On the men's side,
Duncan Smith took control of the 200 free with a smooth 1:50.71 finish, sparking a strong Laker run in the early portion of the meet.
From that point on, Oswego's depth began to separate the meet. The backstroke group delivered a statement performance as
Ethan Calhoun and
Jayden Hernandez swept the top two spots in both the 100 back and 200 back, while
Nathan Ratta Vine and
Manav Sindhi matched that dominance in the breaststroke events, combining for 1–2 finishes in the 100 and 200 breast.
In the women's lanes, Oswego's breaststroke trio of Gabby Janeski,
Aurora Jarvie, and
Emily Lotito provided a major lift, securing places 2–4 in the 100 breast before returning to collect key points again in the 200. The butterfly events added another surge of energy as
Anna Baker claimed the 200 fly, with
Joscelyn Coniski right behind her, and Coniski later added a third-place finish in the 100 fly.
Oswego's sprint group made a major impact late in the meet. Sam Waddell swept the 50 free and 100 free, with
Nicholas Derick finishing runner-up in both races to give the Lakers a decisive edge on the men's scoreboard. The women's 500 free brought another highlight with Bella McDonald and Seldin going 1–2, while the men's 500 saw Sarnowski, Medina and Murphy take second through fourth.
Both squads closed the afternoon with strong relay performances. The women's team of Laferriere,
Katherine Burch, Jarvie and Janeski surged to a victory in the 200 free relay (1:43.90), while the men capped their dominant showing by winning the 200 free relay (1:29.24) behind Waddell, Smith, Derick and Murphy.
