HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The game started out very slow, as
Chelsea Sellars took the mound, and neither team scored any runs in the first 2 innings.
In the top of the third,
Mattison Phinney doubled to center field, driving in
Grace DiPalma for the first run of the game. This momentum would carry, as
Mackenzie Carlson tripled to center field on the next at bat, bringing
Phinney home, and making it 2-0. The Lakers would tack on three more runs in the third, with
Kylie Detz,
Lily Fanea, and
Ariana Guinassi all recording hits, and all scoring.
Mattison Phinney kicked off the fourth with another RBI, this time a single sending
Grace DiPalma home.
Lily Fanea added a 2-RBI single to center field, which brought
Mackenzie Carlson and
Katarina Agerter across home plate, making it an 8-0 game through 4.
In the top of the fifth, with a runner on second,
Grace DiPalma tripled, and scored on an error, improving the Lakers tally to 10 runs.
Gianna DeGonza would make it 11, with an RBI single that drove home
Layla Trendowski.
Chelsea Sellars would dominate the entire game, striking out 4 and allowing just 2 hits, as the Lakers invoked the run-ahead rule after the fifth inning, ending the game early.

Game 2
Senior RHP
Maria Lutz got the start for the Lakers on the mound in game 2 of the day, as neither team could find any sort of offensive production in the first two innings.
In the third, the Lakers had their backs against the wall, with UMass Boston runners on second and third with only one out. An infield fly caught by
Mattison Phinney would make it much more manageable, and a fly out to center field would see the Lakers head into the bottom still tied at 0-0.
After 7 innings, the game remained scoreless, despite both teams having multiple scoring opportunities. This would force extra innings, with a runner starting at second base.
The Lakers would find themselves in another dangerous situation, with runners on second and third with two outs, but
Lutz held strong, striking out the final batter, and moving to the bottom of the 8th.
Lillian Haggerty hit a sac-bunt to send
Kira Wright to third, but the Lakers were unable to get
Wright home, forcing a 9th inning.
An RBI-double deep to left field would score the first run of the game for UMass Boston, and they would tack on another with an RBI-triple, making it 2-0 before the Lakers could get 3 outs. From here, the Lakers were unable to score, taking their first loss of the season by a score of 2-0.
