HOW IT HAPPENED
Juan Roque (125 lbs), captured
third place and piled up
20 team points with an impressive run through the bracket. Roque opened the tournament in dominant fashion, recording three straight technical falls in championship action before dropping a razor-thin 3–2 decision in the semifinals. He rebounded strongly in the consolation rounds, advancing via injury default and closing his day with a decisive
19–5 major decision in the third-place match to secure his spot on the podium.
At
141 pounds,
Michael Santore delivered another standout effort, finishing
fourth overall and scoring
15 team points. Santore showcased his offense early with a technical fall and a pin, then added a major decision in the quarterfinals. After a narrow semifinal loss, he battled through the consolation bracket before falling in a high-scoring third-place bout, capping a strong championship showing.
Oswego added another strong finish at
157 pounds from
Steven Ventricelli, who placed
fifth and earned
13 team points. Ventricelli advanced to the semifinals with a pin and a clutch one-point decision, then regrouped after setbacks to secure fifth place via forfeit, providing valuable points for the Lakers.
At
184 pounds,
Avery Canzano turned in a dominant tournament en route to a
third-place finish and
15.5 team points. Canzano opened with a technical fall and a major decision, then bounced back from a tight semifinal loss with another tech fall before sealing third place with a composed decision victory.
Several Lakers made noise with bonus-point wins throughout the championships.
Jayden Kiell (174 lbs) impressed with a technical fall and two pins, while
Kevin Arriaza (197 lbs) put together a strong consolation run with three straight victories, including two falls.
Donovan Rail (149 lbs) and
Shaquille Daniel (174 lbs) also contributed with multiple pin victories.
WHAT'S NEXT
Next weekend, Lakers wrestling will head to Cortland for the Cortland Quad with Delaware Valley, TCNJ, and the Red Dragons. The Quad will start at 1:00 PM.
