Cortland, N.Y. - The Oswego State Baseball team were victorious in both games of the doubleheader against Canton, by scores of 6-2, and 13-9.

How it Happened - Game 1Â
Both teams began the first game of the doubleheader in fast fashion, as 7 combined runs were scored in the first inning alone. Canton got the better of Oswego starting pitcher
Mason Sands, scoring two runs in the first. Jared Paone singled to knock in the first run, and Mark Maybee Jr. singled to score the second run, which was unearned.Â

Oswego responded in the bottom half of the first, scoring 5 runs to take the lead in the home half of the first.
Daniel Winchester (New City, NY Clarkstown South High School) tripled to score Oswego's first run. Two batters later,
Brendan Mair (Ridge, NY Longwood High School) doubled, scoring Winchester.
Dylan Rosenberg (Roslyn Heights, NY The Wheatley School) then singled, scoring two runs to break the game open. An error by Canton's catcher then added a fifth insurance run.Â

Finally,
Matt Carner (Baldwinsville, NY C W Baker High School) doubled in the second inning to drive home Oswego's 6th run. The Lakers ended the first game with 11 hits, also drawing 2 walks in the process.Â

Following the first inning,
Mason Sands (Syracuse, NY Solvay High School) was excellent, finishing the day with 7.0 innings pitched, surrendering just 5 hits, 1 earned run, walking 1, and striking out 1, earning the win in the process. The Lakers bullpen finished the final 6 outs in style, allowing just 1 hit in the process to blank Canton's offense.Â

How it Happened - Game 2
Canton began Game 2 similarly to Game 1, this time scoring three runs in the top half of the first inning. A ground-rule double by Korbin Lovejoy and a single by Lance Phillips represented the majority of the damage done by Canton in the 1st inning.

Oswego responded back with 5 runs of their own in the bottom of the second, as a grand slam by
Harry Uvena (Huntington, NY Huntington High School) broke the game wide open for the Lakers.Â

The 6th inning saw Canton bring the game within one via a sacrifice fly, but the Lakers responded with 7 runs in the bottom half of the inning to maintain the lead.
Harry Uvena hit his second home run of the game, along with three RBI doubles, one each by
Dylan Rosenberg,
Andrew Dempsey, and
Ben Rollison to give the Lakers an 8 run cushion.Â

A 3-run home run by Canton's Jared Paone brought the game within six runs in the 8th inning, and two more runs in the 9th gave the Lakers a scare at a score of 13-9, but
Matthew Drillings (Chester, NY Chester Academy) entered the game, striking out the side to end the threat in the 9th.

The Lakers and Roos will meet once again for a doubleheader tomorrow, March 30th at the in Oswego, N.Y. Oswego will return home for a doubleheader against Ithaca College, those games on Tuesday, March 31st, beginning at 12:00 P.M.Â
