HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The first two innings were quiet for both teams, as Oswego struggled to get on base, but did a good job defensively shutting down Clarkson. It wasn't until the third period that the Lakers broke through, with
Dylan Rosenberg picking up his first hit of the afternoon, as well as an RBI. The Lakers would score one more off of a walk and go ahead 2-0.
Â
In the top of the fourth inning, the Lakers doubled their lead, as
TJ Harrington hit a 2-RBI single right up the middle, scoring
Ben Rollison and
Brogan Olson, and making it 4-0.
Â
Clarkson would quickly get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, as
Mason Sands gave up his first runs of the morning. In the top of the sixth,
Daniel Winchester hit a double, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch. Immediately following.
Harry Uvena singled to the right side, driving home both
Dylan Rosenberg and
Harrington, and making it 7-2 Oswego.
Â
Clarkson would again respond, scoring just one run to make it 7-3 headed into the seventh inning.
Daniel Winchester would start off the 7th inning with an RBI-single, scoring
Ben Rollison. Winchester then stole second, before being driven home by
Dylan Rosenberg, making it 9-3 Oswego before the third out.
Â
The Lakers would finally relieve
Mason Sands, who completed six full innings, striking out 6 batters, and allowing just 6 hits.
Matt Drillings would come in as the closer, wasting no time, and getting through the bottom of the seventh in just 3 batters.
Â
Neither team would score in the final 2 innings, as Oswego would rotate in two more pitchers, and walk away on top by a score of 9-3.
Â
Game 2
Â
After a single from
Daniel Winchester started off the game,
Dylan Rosenberg tripled down the right field line, sending Winchester home and giving the Lakers an early 1-0 lead. Just two batters later,
Benjamin Silverman hit an RBI-single up the middle, scoring
Rosenberg, and doubling the Lakers lead in the first.
Â
Hamilton would respond, scoring one run against
Jonah Shearer, but the Lakers finished the first inning ahead 2-1.
Â
Neither team would find any offensive production until the sixth inning, when the Lakers brought in
Danny Moccio to pitch. Hamilton tied things up at 2-a-piece in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI-double, after Moccio hit the previous batter with a pitch.
Â
The Lakers took back the lead in the top of the seventh. After a pair of walks to start the inning,
Jaxson Mayo advanced both runners to scoring position with a sac-fly, and
Jordan Ynoa drove them both home, with a 2-RBI double, making it 4-2 Oswego.
Â
Hamilton would get one back in the bottom of the eighth, and then another in the ninth off of an RBI-double to tie things up at 4-4, forcing extra innings.
Â
In the top of the tenth,
Jaxson Mayo made it to first with one out on the board. A grounder to 2nd from
Daniel Winchester turned a double play for the Continentals, as the Lakers came up empty. Luckily for the Lakers,
Will Coleman got them out of two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 10th, forcing an 11th inning.
Â
Both
Dylan Rosenberg and
TJ Harrington were able to get on base to start the inning.
Benjamin Silverman singled to right field, driving home
Harrington, and taking back the lead for Oswego.
Rosenberg tried to tag up on a sac-fly, but was gunned down at home by the Continentals, keeping the score at 5-4 and giving Hamilton one more chance to keep their hopes alive.
Matt Drillings came in for the 11th to close it out for the Lakers, and struck out the final batter swinging, as the Lakers prevailed 5-4.Â
