Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Mason Sands got the start on the mound. After hitting the first batter with a pitch, he walked the second. An RBI-double on a fastball would give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead with runners on second and third. From there, a groundout to first would advance both runners, making it 2-0. A sac fly deep to right field would extend the lead to 3-0 for Utica.Â
Â
Another walk would put two runners on base. And a 2 RBI-double would drive them both home, making it 5-0 through the top of the first, and leaving the Lakers with a lot of work to be done.
Â
Neither team would score in the second, as the Pioneers would tack on three in the third to extend their lead to 8-0.
Â
Oswego would respond in the bottom of the third with three unearned runs.
Grayson Giddings singled to first, then
Ryan Mayer was hit by a pitch. Immediately after,
Daniel Winchester walked, loading the bases. From there, three straight batters were walked, making it 8-3 headed into the fourth inning.
Â
After a single from the Pioneers, an RBI-double deep to center field would score yet another run, making it 9-3 in the top of the fourth.
Â
In the top of the sixth, the Pioneers, with runners on first and second, would ground into a double play. Despite this, the runner on second made it home, extending the lead to 10-3.
Â
The Lakers would get four back in the sixth, after both
Jaxson Mayo and
Grayson Giddings were walked.
Ryan Mayer singled to center field, driving home Mayo.
Emil Sander then followed suit, scoring Giddings and making it 10-5.Â
Daniel Winchester then followed things up with a routine flyout, but an error in the field allowed both runners to score, and Winchester to reach second, making it 10-7.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, the Lakers rallied and took the lead.
Jaxson Mayo started things off with an RBI-single scoring
Ben Rollison.
Ryan Mayer hit a sac-fly to center field, scoring
Matt Carner.
Emil Sander tied things up with an RBI-double to left field scoring
Mayo.
Daniel Winchester took the lead with an RBI-single up the middle.
Dylan Rosenberg tacked on an insurance run with an RBI-single to shortstop, giving the Lakers their first lead of the game at 12-10.
Â
The Lakers would tack on four more in the eighth inning, three of which were unearned. A walk with the bases loaded would bring home
Matt Carner. A balk from the pitcher would score
Jaxson Mayo.
Emil Sander would pick up the RBI to make it 15-10 with a single to left field, and
Jordan Ynoa would capitalize on a wild pitch to extend the lead to six runs.
Â
Benjamin Silverman and
Ben Rollison would both tack on one more RBI, as the Lakers took this one 18-10.
WHAT'S NEXT?
