Oswego State drops home opener to St. Lawrence 11-5

St. Lawrence's Kevin Russell (Madison, CT) netted six goals as the visiting Saints jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to an 11-5 men's lacrosse victory over host Oswego State on Wednesday, March 23, at the South Athletic Complex.

The loss knocked the Lakers to 1-2 on the young season, while the Saints improved to 4-2.

St. Lawrence scored twice in the first four minutes of the game with both of those goals coming from Alex Moore (Milford, CT).

After the Lakers cut the deficit in half on a goal by Chris Mitchell (Oswego), the Saints netted the next two as Nick Mastine (Erin, ONT) and Russell each scored.

Russell then scored two of St. Lawrence's two goals in the second frame, while C.J. Williams (Rochester) scored for Oswego State. The Saints carried a 7-2 lead into the intermission.

The Lakers scored the lone goal in the third quarter as Steve Tronovitch (Binghamton) scored at the 12:47 mark on an assist from Keith Labbe (Oswego).

Russell then capped his big day with three goals in the final quarter, erasing any hopes of an Oswego State comeback.

Oswego State goalie Al Simeone (Islip Terrace) finished the game with 13 saves.

In goal for the Saints, Justin Demuth (Jordan) made nine saves.

Tronovitch paced the Laker attack with a pair of goals.

The Lakers will be on the road for their next game heading to Utica College on Saturday, March 26, for a 2 p.m. start.
