The Oswego State men's lacrosse team made a late push to force overtime, but came up one goal short as visiting Brockport came away with a 10-9 win over the Lakers on Saturday, April 30, on a soggy Laker Field.
The hosts trailed 9-6 late in the third quarter before Steve Tronovitch (Binghamton) pulled the Lakers to within a pair of goals heading into the final period.
In the fourth, Brockport got its lone goal of the period from Scott Nash (Syracuse) midway through to regain the three-goal advantage. Oswego State came on late in the quarter as John Schumacher (Webster) scored with 2:22 left and exactly one minute later Tronovitch tallied his fifth of the game off. That goal came off of a nice feed from Chris Mitchell (Oswego) in a man-up situation.
The Lakers had a chance to force overtime, but were unable to hold onto possession, allowing the Golden Eagles to kill of the clock.
Oswego State finished the season at 2-12 and 0-5 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. The win ended Brockport's season at 6-7 and 2-4 in the conference.
In addition to Tronovitch's five goals, Mitchell finished with three goals and an assist for the Lakers.
Patrick Sweeney (Webster) led Brockport with four goals, while Nash scored once and set up another.
Oswego State goalie Al Simeone (Binghamton) finished with eight saves, while Brockport goalie Matt Staalesen (Clifton Park) collected 10.
