The Oswego State men's lacrosse team was beaten 10-9 by visiting Keuka on Wednesday afternoon at Laker Field. Keuka's Justin Pecori scored the game-winning goal with 1:08 remaining in the fourth quarter.
After falling behind 6-2, Keuka scored four times in the second quarter to even the score 6-6 at halftime. Defense was tighter in the second half. The Lakers built an 8-7 lead after three quarters, but Keuka tied the score with 4:43 remaining on a man-up goal by Steve LaRue. Another extra-man opportunity for the Storm was converted by Ryan Burton with 2:15 left and Keuka had its first lead of the game.
The Lakers answered on a goal by John Schumacher with 1:12 remaining and the game was tied 9-9.
The ensuing faceoff was won by Keuka's LaRue. The ground ball was scooped up by Justin Pecori and he raced into the restraining area and fired a shot past Laker goalie Matt Pfister. The Lakers had one final possession but Rob Tramontozzi's shot in the closing seconds sailed over the cage.
The Lakers scored the first four goals of the game in the opening 10 minutes to build an early advantage. Chris Mitchell had three of those four Laker goals but was held off the scoresheet for the remainder of the game. Rob Tramontozzi was the Lakers' leading scorer with two goals and two assists for four points. Jeff Salisbury had a goal and two assists, John Schumacher had a goal and an assist, and Steve Tronovitch and Mike Strohm had one goal each. Pfister made 11 saves for the Lakers.
Oswego State dropped its fifth consecutive game and is 1-5 on the season.
Burton had three goals for the Storm. Drew Kunda had two goals and an assist and Pecori had a goal and two assists. Keuka goalie Chad Green made nine saves to earn the win. Keuka is now 3-0 on the season.
Oswego State's next game is Saturday at SUNY Farmingdale.
