The Cortland men's lacrosse team, ranked sixth nationally by the USILA and Inside Lacrosse polls, defeated Oswego State 16-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Oswego. The Red Dragons converted their first four man-up opportunities in the game and cruised to the victory.
Oswego State trailed 8-0, but scored three times in the final six minutes of the first half on goals by Mike Brewster, John Schumacher, and Chris Mitchell. Schumacher added a pair of goals in the fourth quarter for the Lakers. Oswego State goalie Matt Pfister made 18 saves on the afternoon as the Lakers were outshot 50-25. The Lakers are 0-2 in the SUNYAC and 2-8 overall.
Kyle Lambert and Mike Abbott each scored three goals for the Red Dragons, while Matt O'Connell tallied twice. Cortland is now 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC.
Oswego State hosts Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m.
