Comeback win highlights sweep of Keuka

The Oswego State baseball team rallied for an exciting 8-7 win over Keuka in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday in Oswego. The Lakers had a much easier time in the first game, winning that one 16-12.

Oswego State 16, Keuka 12

In the first game of the afternoon the Lakers scored six runs in the fourth inning and added four runs in each of the first and fifth innings en route to a victory. Nick Perioli was 4-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored in the opener and Dave Farley was 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Anthony Coromato also had three hits in support of three Laker pitchers. Rob Johnson was credited with the win. He allowed four runs in two innings of work.

Keuka's Jim Guererri was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Craig Smithers took the loss.

Oswego State 8, Keuka 7

The Lakers trailed 5-0 and 7-1 before rallying for a win in the second game. Oswego State began its rally by batting around and scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The big hit in the inning was a two-run single by Coromato that made the score 7-5. Justin White later singled in Coromato and the Lakers trailed by just one run heading into the last inning.

After Matt Corrigan retired the Storm in the top of the seventh, the Lakers tallied twice to earn the victory. Oswego State eventually loaded the bases with two outs. Coromato's two-strike swing sent a dribbler up the third base line that relief pitcher Brady Begeal had no play on, scoring Perioli from third to tie the game 7-7. Jake Alsheimer then laced a single into right field to bring home pinch-runner Tom Grace from third with the winning run.

Corrigan's excellent relief work earned him the victory for the Lakers while Mike Duxbury took the loss for the Storm.

Oswego State evened its record on the season to 10-10, while Keuka is now 8-4 after Thursday's action.
