Chris Mitchell scored the game-winning goal with five seconds remaining as the Oswego State men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Plattsburgh 7-6 on Saturday afternoon.
Oswego State scored the first two goals of the game but Plattsburgh rallied to score three in a row before the end of the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead.
John Schumacher scored three goals for Oswego State in the third quarter as the Lakers took a 5-3 lead. Plattsburgh's Jon Kane scored late in the third quarter to reduce the Oswego State lead to just one goal.
Jeff Salisbury scored with 11:32 remaining in the fourth quarter to re-establish Oswego State's two-goal lead but Kane scored his fourth of the game with 9:35 left and Adam Lockley tied the score with a goal with 1:20 left in the fourth quarter.
Oswego State controlled the ensuing face off and Mitchell's shot in the closing seconds found the upper-right corner of the net.
Schumacher had three goals and an assist for Oswego State. Mitchell scored twice and Jeff Salisbury had a goal and two assists. Steve Tronovitch had a goal and an assist for the Lakers, who improved their overall record to 3-8 and are now 1-2 in the SUNYAC. Oswego State goalie Matt Pfister made 12 saves.
Kane had four goals on the afternoon for the Cardinals, who are now 8-3 overall and 0-3 in the SUNYAC. Lockley scored the other two goals for Plattsburgh, Zach Boyce had two assists, and goaltender Billy Hughes made 14 saves.
The Lakers host Potsdam on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
