The Oswego State baseball team lost a pair of games to visiting Pitt-Bradford on Friday afternoon at Laker Field. Extra innings were needed to decide the opener as the Panthers won 9-7 in nine innings. Pitt-Bradford then went on to win the second game 7-3.
Pitt-Bradford 9, Oswego State 7
The Lakers led for most of the early part of the first game after scoring twice in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer by Jake Alsheimer. Oswego State added single runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-2 lead. The Panthers went ahead briefly by scoring three times in the top of the sixth on two hits and two errors to take a 5-4 lead.
Oswego State answered in the bottom of the sixth with an unearned run and another on an RBI triple by Alsheimer. He finished the game with 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. A single run in the seventh by the Panthers forced extra innings and they won it in the ninth on a two-run double by Ryan Hoglund.
Adam Harendza took the loss for the Lakers in relief of starter Chris Daley. Chad Yohe was the winning pitcher for Pitt-Bradford. Nick Marzullo and Chuck Galuski contributed to the Oswego State offense with two hits each.
Pitt-Bradford 7, Oswego State 3
The Panthers scored all of their runs in the top of the fifth inning and capitalized on three Oswego State errors in the frame. Oswego State's bats were silenced by Pitt-Bradford winning pitcher Zach Foster over five innings.
Tom Farrell and Tom Grace had two hits each for Oswego State as the Lakers had eight hits in the contest. Farrell had an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Justin White was the losing pitcher and Rob Johnson was effective in relief as the tandem allowed just six hits in the game.
