The Oswego State men's ice hockey team lost to Fredonia, 3-2 in overtime, Saturday at the Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego.
Fredonia's Matt McKeown scored a power-play goal 5:41 into the sudden-death overtime period to send the visiting Blue Devils to the SUNYAC Championship next weekend at Plattsburgh. McKeown's goal came off of a deflected point shot by Steve Albert, the ricochet came on to the stick of McKeown in the right-wing circle.
Oswego State took a 1-0 lead in the second period when Ryan Ellis scored his 16th of the year. Fredonia answered with two goals in the third period to take a 2-1 lead. Kraig Kuzma and Joe Muli scored, with Muli's go-ahead tally coming with 6:01 to play.
The Lakers tied it with 1:47 left in regulation as Francois Gagnon forced a turnover deep in the Fredonia zone and was end the end of a pretty passing sequence with Brendan McLaughlin and Peter Magagna. It was Gagnon's second goal of the year and sent the game to overtime.
Oswego State outshot Fredonia 44-19 in the game, and Fredonia goaltender Kevin Amborski made 42 saves.
The Lakers are now 20-3-3 on the season and will await word on a possible NCAA Tournament bid when the field is announced on March 4.
