Nationally-ranked Cortland powers past Oswego State early

The Cortland Red Dragons, ranked 19th nationally by Inside Lacrosse, scored the first 12 goals of the game and went on to a 22-5 win over Oswego State in men's lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon in Cortland.

Cortland scored seven times in the first quarter and added five more in the second quarter before Oswego State's Steve Tronovitch broke the run with a goal in the final minute of the first half, assisted by Mike Brewster.

The Lakers scored twice in the third quarter (Mike Strohm and Mike Recor) and added two more goals in the fourth quarter (Derek Card and Justin Creagh).

Four goalies saw action for Oswego State, with Matt Pfister making 12 saves and allowing 16 goals. Zach Harris (1), A.J. Davis (3), and Judd Robinson (4) also saw time in the crease for Oswego State.

The defending national champions outshot Oswego State 57-13 in the game and picked up 66 ground balls to 27 for the Lakers.

Oswego State is now 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC and welcomes Plattsburgh to Laker Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
