The Oswego State men's lacrosse team lost to Potsdam 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears' Matt Vaverchak scored the only goal of the fourth quarter, with 8:44 remaining, to give Potsdam the win.
Oswego State started the game strongly. After Potsdam scored just 1:23 into the game, the Lakers scored four straight goals to close the first quarter.
The Bears dominated the second quarter by outscoring Oswego State 5-0 to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.
The Potsdam lead grew to 7-4, but three straight Laker goals including two from Steve Tronovitch knotted the score 7-7 with 2:41 to play. Potsdam's Corey Reinhart and Oswego State's Mike Recor scored near the end of the third quarter to make the score 8-8 and set up Vaverchak's game-winner.
Tronovitch had three goals for the Lakers and Mike Strohm had two goals and two assists. Recor scored twice, and John Schumacher added an extra-man goal. Mike Brewster had three assists. Matt Pfister made 11 saves in goal and Judd Robinson had one save.
The Lakers will play at Keuka on Saturday at 1 p.m. and host Geneseo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
