The Oswego State baseball team won for the third time this season in its final at-bat, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth inning in a 4-3 win over visiting Ithaca at Laker Field on Monday afternoon.
The Lakers took advantage of some control problems from Ithaca pitchers in the ninth-inning rally. After the first batter was retired, Tom Farrell and Nick Marzullo reached base after being hit by pitches. Pinch-hitter Justin White then walked to load the bases. That forced a pitching change as Brendan Conway relieved Bryan Gardner.
Conway hit the next batter, Steve Guckemus, to force in a run that tied the game at 3-3. Dan Pecora then struck out swinging, before Nick Perioli singled to left field with two outs to win the game.
Ithaca took the lead with two runs in the top of the third on an RBI single by Shane Wolf and ground out by Jason Friedman that brought home Rob Raux.
The Lakers narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the third when Dan Pecora doubled to start the inning and Nick Perioli and Mike Levy reached on back-to-back bunt singled to load the bases. After a strikeout and infield pop out, Tom Farrell walked to force in Pecora.
Oswego State tied it in the bottom of the seventh when Farrell singled to drive in Levy.
Ithaca took the lead in the eighth on a leadoff double by Wolf, who moved to third on a ground out and scored on a squeeze bunt by Eric Maya. That set up Oswego State's late rally.
Justin Horbal got the win on the mound for the Lakers allowing three runs on nine hits. Horbal struck out five Bombers and walked two.
Pete MacDaniel started for the Bombers and worked seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs. He had seven strikeouts.
Oswego State improved to 14-10 overall and are 6-2 at home this season. Ithaca is 20-9.
