Oswego extends win streak to four games with 3-0 triumph over regionally-ranked Buffalo State

Three different player scored goals in the second half, while sophomore goalkeeper Matt Wopperer (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) posted his second straight shutout as the Oswego State men's soccer team won it's fourth straight contest in SUNYAC play with a 3-0 shutout of Buffalo State College on Saturday, Oct. 11 on Laker Field.

It's the second win over a regionally ranked team on consecutive weekends for the Lakers (7-5 overall, 5-1 SUNYAC).  Buffalo State (9-5, 3-3 SUNYAC) came into the game ranked ninth in the Northeast by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

With four games remaining in the conference schedule, Oswego is currently in third place with 16 points, one point behind Cortland State and three points behind unbeaten and conference leader SUNY Geneseo.

After both teams failed to score in the opening half, Oswego struck first in the opening minutes of the second half as sophomore German Colazzo (Freeport) took a pass from left post from senior Craig Nazarre (St. Carherines, ONT/St. Thomas Aquinas and scored from the top of the box at 47:41.  Classmate Felipe Cavalcanti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) extended the lead with his team leading seventh goal of the year at 64:35, scoring from almost the same position with an assist from junior Dave Baldanza (Herkimer). Cavalcanti has registered at least goal in five of the team's last six games.

The Lakers, who held a 10-5 advantage in shots, added an insurance goal at 72:50 when junior Chris Carra (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) scored on a high lob pass from Nazare into the penalty box. Wopperer, who has allowed only three goals in six starts on the season, made five saves to improve to 5-1 on the year.

Oswego will have the opportunity to take over the lead in the SUNYAC standings when it travels to Geneseo for a 3 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 17, then travels to take on The College at Brockport the following day at 1 p.m.
