The Oswego State men's soccer team put together it's best defensive effort to date, yet could not provide any offense as visiting Hamilton College took advantage of key opportunities in the first and second half to come away with a 2-0 triumph on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Laker Field. Oswego entered the contest with a two-game winning streak, both coming by way of shutout.
Both teams had excellent opportunities to score early, with all three Oswego shots in the first half having the potential to go into the net. The Continentals (4-0-0) got on the board at 37:34 into the half when Jesse Arroyve took a pass from Frank Campagnano and beat a Laker defender before putting a 20-foot shot past goalie Marcus LaRobardiere. Both players had came into the game as substitutions at 22:10 into the half.
Oswego had two opportunties to tie the game midway in the second half when a shot from junior Chris Carra hit the crossbar and the rebound from senior Craig Nazarre was saved by Hamilton goalie Anthony Carello.
The game's second goal came on a direct kick after an Oswego player received a yellow card for a rough tackle. Hamilton midfielder Sam Dwyer lofted a 30-yard shot from the left side of the field perfectly over the head and outstretched hands of LaRobardaire.
Hamilton held a 10-6 shots advantage for the game, held to only three shots in the second half. Carello and LaRobardaire each made two saves in goal for their respective teams.
The Lakers open SUNYAC play on the road on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they take on Oneonta State in a 1:00 contest
