Junior attack
Rachel Ventresca (Syracuse/Henninger) posted her second multi-goal game for Oswego State on the final day of a three-day road swing through San Antonio, TX with five goals and two assists, but the University of Rochester scored the game's first six goals in the opening 7:40 and never trailed throughout the game in handing the Lakers their second straight defeat in a 23-13 win on Tuesday, March 10.
Ventresca scored all of her goals in the opening half as Oswego (1-2) trailed 10-1 at the 9:45 mark of the half before scoring four unanswered goals (three by Ventresca) to cut the Yellowjacket lead to five goals with 9:26 to play.
Rochester (1-1) responded with a 5-1 run over a 6:42 stretch to extend its lead to 14-6 before the Lakers got consecutive goals from Ventresca, freshman Kristen Darcy (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa and freshman Bri Borrow (Oswego) to cut the lead to 15-9 at halftime. The Yellowjackets opened the second half with five straight goals in the first 8:17, primarily putting the game out of reach.
Darcy and Borrow were two of four Lakers to tally a pair of goals in the contest, joining freshman Erin Cummings (Valley Cottage/Nyack) and senior Colleen Ventura (LaFayette). Senior Shannon O'Brien (Syracuse/West Genesee) and freshman Nicole Nalle (Oswego) split time in goal, with O'Brien stopping four shots in playing the first half, and Nalle making five saves in the second.
A day earlier, the Lakers took on Washington College (MD) in game two of the road trip, dropping a 17-6 decision to the Shorewomen. Six different players tallied goals for the Lakers, with Ventresca being the team's top point scorer with a goal and three assists. Junior Andrea Musso (Auburn) also tallied multiple points with a goal and an assists.
Oswego will have a ten day hiatus before its next two road games, traveling to Hartwick College (Mar. 24) and Wells College (Mar. 28), The Lakers will face Clarkson University in the home opener on Tuesday, March 31 at 4:00 p.m.
