For the second straight contest, the Oswego State men's lacrosse team produced the game's top scorer as senior attackman
Mike Brewster (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) tallied four goals and an assist. But host SUNY Maritime jumped out to a 9-2 first-half lead and never trailed throughout the game, despite the Lakers pulling to within a goal in the game's final seconds, en route to a 12-11 victory in a non-conference contest on Saturday, March 7.
Brewster was the lone multiple goal scorer for the Lakers (0-2), who dropped their second straight one-goal decision.  Sophomore midfielder Pat Decker (Spencerport) added a goal and two assists, while senior Mike Recor (Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) contributed a goal and an assists.
The Lakers, who were outshot 24-16 in the opening two quarters, controlled the entire second half with a 22-13 shots advantage, outscoring the Privateers (2-0) 8-3.
Oswego pulled to within a goal with the game's final three scores in the final five minutes as Brewster scored a pair of unassisted goals at 10:44 and 12:52 and Decker adding a solo score with 44 seconds to play. Oswego won the faceoff after the score and had an opportunity to send the game into overtime, but Brewster's shot was saved by Maritime goalie Colin Gallagher with one second remaining to secure the win.
Gallagher finished with 17 saves, while Oswego junior Judd Robinson (Guilderland) stopped 11 shots.
The Lakers will travel to Farmingdale State on Tuesday, March 10 for a 3 p.m. contest with the Rams before returning to Laker Field on Friday, March for their 4 p.m. home opener against nationally-ranked Nazareth College.
