Ventresca scores four times in Lakers’ 18-9 win at New Paltz, moves into fourth-place on all-time scoring list

Senior attack Rachel Ventresca (Syracuse/Henninger) moved into fourth place on the Oswego State women's lacrosse all-time scoring list with a game-high tying four goals and an assists as the Lakers scored the last seven goals of the game to pull away from SUNY New Paltz in an 18-9 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse contest on Tuesday, April 21 at New Paltz.

Ventresca, the team's leading scorer this season (42 goals, 27 assists for 69 points), has 163 points on 114 goals and 49 assists in only 40 career games with the Lakers, surpassing Annette Stead (156 points, 1998-2001) on the program's all-time scoring list. Ventresca is also tied with Stead for fifth in career goals scored.

Ventresca was one of nine different scorers on the day for Oswego (8-6, 3-4 SUNYAC), who outshot the Hawks 42-21 (26-8 in the second half) and held the advantage in ground balls (23-17) and draw controls (16-13). Freshman Kristen Darcy (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa), sophomore Bri Borrow (Oswego), and junior Andrea Musso (Auburn) scored three goals apiece, while freshman Erin Cummings (Valley Cottage/Nyack) registered a goal and two assists, and classmate Rachael Raffa (Kings Park), juniors Kellyn Brightman (Newark) and Jessica Zenzel (Johnson City), and senior Shannon Brown (Amherst) added single scores.

Senior Shannon O'Brien (Syracuse/West Genesee) started in goal and made six saves in 43:58 of action, while freshman Nicole Nalle (Oswego) made one save in playing the final 16:02.

New Paltz (2-10, 0-7 SUNYAC) scored the game's first goal and held leads of 4-2 (16:20) and 6-4 (10:40) in the opening half before Oswego closed out the half with goals from Borrow, Zenzel, and Darcy to take a 7-6 halftime lead, which it would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

The Lakers extended their lead to 11-7 with a 4-1 run in the opening 12:21 of the second half, with Musso scoring twice in the stretch, before New Paltz pulled to within two with back-to-back goals 47 seconds apart before Oswego went on its game-closing 7-0 run, with Ventresca tallying three goals and an assists and Darcy adding a pair of goals.

Oswego will close out its regular-season home schedule this weekend with a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup with Keuka College, and a key 12 p.m. SUNYAC matchup with Oneonta State in the opening game of a Laker men/women doubleheader on Laker Field.
