Junior midfielder
Jessica Zenzel (Johnson City) tallied a career game-high four goals and senior attack
Rachel Ventresca moved within two of recording 100 career goals with a pair of scores and two assists, but host Buffalo State broke open an early 4-3 lead with seven straight goals in a span of 11:06 in the first half, and never trailed en route to a 21-10 win over the Lakers in a State University of New York women's lacrosse contest on Wednesday, April 8 at Buffalo State's Coyer Field.
The game was a rescheduled contest that was originally to be played on Tuesday, April 7, in Oswego before being moved to Buffalo due to poor field conditions.
Freshman attack Kristen Darcy (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) compiled a goal and an assist and was one of four players to tally a goal for the Lakers (4-5, 0-3 SUNYAC), who held a 19-14 advantage in draw controls, but were narrowly outshot 35-37 by conference co-leading Buffalo State (9-1, 3-0 SUNYAC). Freshmen Erin Cummings (Valley Cottage/Nyack) and Rachael Raffa (Kings Park), and sophomore Bri Borrow (Oswego) also added single scores.
Oswego State stayed competitive with the Bengals for the opening 6:31 of the first half, trailing only 4-3 on goals from Darcy, Cummings, and Ventresca. But the Bengals put the game away early with the seven-goal run, five of them coming from junior Katie Henderson, who finished with a single-game school record nine goals and 11 points. Freshman Kendyl Clarkson scored two of her five goals in the run, while Henderson added two more as Buffalo State took a 16-6 lead into the half.
The Bengals extended their lead with a pair of goal to open the second half before Oswego State scored four of the next five goals, with Zenzel scoring twice and Ventresca and Rachael Raffa adding goals. Buffalo State finished the scoring with the game's final two goals.
Senior Shannon O'Brien (Syracuse/West Genesee) and freshman Nicole Nalle (Oswego) split time in goal for the Lakers. Brown played the opening half and making a pair of saves, while Nalle played the second half and recorded three saves.
