Box Score
The Oswego State women's lacrosse team rallied late in the second half against Potsdam, but did not have enough fire power to close the gap and fell 16-14 Tuesday afternoon in Potsdam. The Lakers fell behind early on and despite outscoring the Bears 9-7 in the second half could not overcome the deficit. The loss dropped the Lakers to 6-7 on the season and 0-4 in the SUNYAC standings, while the Bears improved to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Oswego State played evenly with Potsdam throughout the first half, but struggled to find the back of the net. Both teams took 14 shots in the half, but the Bears' goalie Kaci Milligan registered five saves compared to one by Ashlee Engel (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) and Nicole Nalle (So., Oswego, N.Y.).
Potsdam raced to a quick 5-1 lead within the first ten minutes of the contest, but the Lakers did not give up. Behind Marisa Audley's (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.) game-leading seven goals and two assists, the Lakers remained poised. Audley scored two consecutive goals to close the half as Oswego State headed into intermission down 9-5.
Coach Ostrander's squad started the second half with determination as it went on a 4-0 run to tie the game at nine. It was a back-and-forth battle from that point on until Potsdam took a two-goal lead at 14-12 with 13:25 remaining in the game forcing the Lakers to play from behind as the Bears held on for the win.
The Lakers had goal contributions from six different players, including Bri Borrow (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) and Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.) who contributed two goals each. Despite the strong effort in the second half, the Lakers never led in the contest.
Oswego State will continue to play on the road as it travels to Buffalo State on Friday for a 4 p.m. start.
