The Oswego State baseball team reached the 20-win plateau by sweeping NAIA-affiliated SUNY Canton by the scores of 7-3 and 10-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Oswego. The Lakers recorded 16 hits in the game two win, as seven different players drove in runs. Oswego State improved to 20-16 overall, while the Roos closed out their season at 3-26-1.
The Roos put the game's first run on the board in the second after Dominic Creazzo scored following a sacrifice fly, but Oswego State tied the score in the bottom half of the frame when Matt Deveney (Sr., North Syracuse, N.Y.) touched home plate after a sacrifice fly by Kane Share (So., Brockport, N.Y.). The Lakers put together a three-run rally in the third, as Ryan Clements (Fr., Troy, N.Y.) hit an RBI-double and a two-RBI single by Deveney for a 4-1 lead.
Oswego State capitalized on a SUNY Canton error in the fifth when Mike Tarnowski (Fr., Dunkirk, N.Y.) tagged from third following another sac fly by Clements to go ahead by four runs. The Roos bounced back, though, in the next inning cutting the deficit in half when Michael Zelyez ripped a two-RBI single into center field. The Lakers' Rafael Cordero (Jr., Utica, N.Y.) laced a base hit into left field, driving in Dan Slate (Sr., Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Share to make the score 7-3.
Greg Shreders (Jr., Poughquag, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound after six innings. He gave up three hits for three runs, while striking out four and walking two before Mike Groth (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh. Matthew Fallon went 5.2 innings allowing six earned runs on nine hits for the loss.
The hits kept coming in the nightcap of the twinbill for Oswego State as it plated two runs in the first. With a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Lakers broke the game wide open by scoring four runs on five singles to go ahead 7-0. Kris Prikazsky (So., Endicott, N.Y.), Andy Salvatore (Sr., Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), and Bryan Stark (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) each drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth to help Oswego State take a 10-0 lead, which is where the final score stood.
Freshman pitcher Jon Stevens (Chittenango, N.Y.) turned in a strong outing pitching six innings, striking out eight batters and giving up three hits. Groth again closed out the game with a scoreless seventh. Adam Levy threw a complete game for SUNY Canton in the loss.
