Baseball Salvages Split Against Salve Regina

The Oswego State baseball team bounced back from a walk-off 4-3 loss in game one of a doubleheader versus Salve Regina by posting a 9-5 win in the nightcap at Fort Pierce, Florida.  The Lakers recorded a trio of three-run innings to earn the win and improve to 6-2 overall.  Oswego State will face Delaware College on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.

After Salve Regina scored in the bottom of the second inning of Game 1, Steve Roman delivered a lead-off single to fuel a two-run inning in Oswego State half of the third.  The Lakers later loaded the bases until Andrew Lazzaro delivered a two-out, two-RBI single through the left side of the infield to give Oswego State a 2-1 lead.  Lazzaro went on to finish the day 2-for-3.  Salve Regina plated two runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 3-2.

Head coach Frank Paino's team tied the game in its final at-bat in the top of the seventh when Scott Buniak's double into right center drove in Mike Stark from second base.  However, the Seahawks recorded a walk-off win as they received a RBI single from Tom Glynn with the bases loaded.

Oswego State's Mark Schaper struck out six batters, walked two, and gave up nine hits in seven innings of work for the loss.

In the second game, Salve Regina took a 3-0 lead midway through the second frame on four hits in the inning.  The Lakers countered with three runs in the bottom half of the second on four walks, a hit batter, and one hit to tie the game.  The Seahawks plated runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-3 lead, but Oswego State got the offense going late in the game by pounding out six combined hits in the fifth and sixth innings to score six runs.  Mike Tarnowski produced the big hit in the fifth when his double down the left field line drove in Kris Prikazsky and Dan Maloney

Marc Peterson registered the win by scattering 11 hits over seven innings, while striking out two and walking just one batter.
