The Oswego State baseball team broke out of its mini-slump in a big way on Tuesday by defeating Cazenovia, 15-2 in game one and following up with an 8-1 win in game two. Catcher Kris Prikazsky had a solid day at the plate going 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. The pair of wins pushed the Lakers to 13-14 on the season, while Cazenovia's record fell to 5-16.
Oswego State pitcher Dan Erne pitched a complete game one, striking out five and walking two on the way to the win. Cazenovia pitcher Justin Teator took the loss as he and reliever Sam Gelman each pitched three innings and combined for two strikeouts and four walks.
The Lakers started early, as an error allowed Pat Brown to score. A two-RBI single by Matt Miller later drove in Dan Maloney and Scott Buniak to put Oswego State up 3-0 at the end of the first inning.
The Lakers put up six runs each in the third and fourth innings. A double by Mike Stark brought in Ed Charles and another double by Brown later in the inning scored both Tyler Baker and Kris Prikazsky. A third double by Charles plated Buniak and extend the lead to 9-0 entering the fourth.
The Wildcats' defensive missteps in the fourth led Charles to score again on a wild pitch and allowed Miller to score on a fielding error. Buniak laced a double that brought in both Baker and Prikazsky and a Charles double brought in Buniak to extend the lead to 15-0.
Cazenovia avoided a shutout with a single by Berly Estevez in the top of the seventh that scored left fielder Josh Tucker. Wiley scored the Wildcats' only other run of the contest on a wild pitch. In total, Cazenovia finished game one with seven errors.
Game two was much of the same for the visiting squad. A Tucker double in the first inning scored Wiley and put Cazenovia ahead, but only temporarily. The Lakers had a five-run bottom of the first en route to an 8-1 victory.
Pitcher Brady Farkas picked up the win for Oswego State, pitching six and one third innings while striking out two and walking two. Wildcat pitcher Josh Seymore took the loss in game two, pitching through five while striking out two and walking one.
A bases loaded walk to Charles scored Buniak and another single by Prikazsky scored both Miller and Tom Curry before two more insurance runs came across to end the first inning with Oswego State on top, 5-1, en route to the win.
The Lakers look to even up the win-loss column when they travel to Plattsburgh for the first of a three-game set Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
