The Oswego State baseball team concluded the 2011 season with two more wins in a doubleheader versus Keuka College at Kuhl Field Friday, taking game one 5-2 and following up with an 8-0 shutout. The wins put the Lakers' final mark at 19-20 on the year, while the losses dropped Keuka to a 3-20 finish.
Oswego State's Marc Peterson pitched a complete game and struck out ten in the game one win, while Keuka's Jason Kirkum took the complete game loss, striking out six and walking four.
The Lakers struck first when Steve Roman reached on a throwing error in the second to drive home Pat Brown. A two-RBI single by Tom Curry added two insurance runs in the form of Ed Charles and Rafael Cordero to extend the lead to 3-0 in the fifth. A single by Kris Prikazsky drove in Dan Maloney for another before the end of the inning.
Down 4-0, the Storm answered back with a Pete Venuti triple to bring in Keith Prestano. Venuti came in on a groundout later in the inning to narrow the gap to two. The Lakers put up their final run on a single to center field by Maloney that drove in Charles in the seventh.
Oswego State remained in control throughout game two as well. Mark Schaper picked up his first win of the season, pitching through five while striking out four and walking one. Storm pitcher Will Waldau pitched through four while striking out and walking two apiece. Waldau also earned only one of the eight runs scored in the game.
After four silent innings, Rafael Cordero singled to bring in Dylan Parmenter to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Parmenter brought in Prikazsky in the sixth inning and spurred a six-run flurry that included a bases-loaded walk, a score on a wild pitch and three pitching changes for Keuka.
An error in right field in the seventh allowed Charles to reach and Parmenter to score for Oswego State's final run of the season.
