Men's Lacrosse Opens Season with Loss to Nationally-Ranked Ithaca

Ithaca, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team started its 2014 campaign with an 18-7 loss at No. 15 Ithaca College.

Oswego got on the board first with junior Cody Hoose's unassisted goal at 10:07 in the first quarter. The Bombers then rattled off four-straight goals until Brady Hoose stopped the run with the Lakers' second goal with nine seconds left in the opening period.

Ithaca was able to take control of the game entering the second quarter, scoring eight unanswered goals to head to the break with a 12-2 advantage.

The two squads played evenly throughout the second half, with Oswego scoring five goals and the Bombers notching six.

C. Hoose and Matt Palmer finished with multiple-point games for the Lakers. Palmer tallied three goals, all in the second half, to lead Oswego while C. Hoose finished with two points on a goal and an assist.

Also scoring for the Lakers in the contest were Torry Whitcher and Jimmy Cordon.

Bryan Martin earned the start between the pipes for Oswego, stopping three shots in the first half. In the second stanza, Wyatt Russo played the 30 minutes, making seven saves while allowing six goals.

The Lakers will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to SUNYIT for a nonconference matchup.
