Lake Myrtle, Fla. - The Oswego State baseball team split a doubleheader with Brockport on Thursday, dropping the first game 6-2 and bouncing back for a 5-0 shutout in the second.
Oswego runs its record to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC play while Brockport moves to 8-3 ,1-1.
In the opening game this morning, both teams had strong pitching efforts that allowed only one run each through the first eleven innings. Â Brockport struck for a run in the top of the sixth with Oswego answering in the bottom half. Â Kyle Liner reached on an error and advanced on a Tim Smith groundout. Â Dan Saccocio would single and steal second to put runners at second and third. Â A John Rauseo groundout would plate Liner to tie the score.
Brockport would explode for five runs in the top of the eleventh and Liner would homer in the bottom half for the final score.
Brendyn Karinchak was strong on the hill for the Lakers, going nine and two-thirds, scattering seven hits, and striking out eight.
In the second game, Miles Kelly (3-0) held the Eagles to only two hits while striking out four in seven shutout innings of work to pick up the win.
The Oswego offense got on the board in the second on a leadoff single by Eric Hamilton. Â Jordan Giller singled to move Hamilton over to third. Â Hamilton would come home as Giller was caught in a rundown at first.
Oswego would extend the lead in the fourth as Tyler Baker led off with a hit by pitch and then stole second. Â Saccocio would reach on an error to plate Baker and steal second as well. Â Mike McMullen would single Saccocio home and advance to second on the throw. Â Hamilton would then single to bring in McMullen to push the lead to 4-0.
Oswego would conclude the scoring in the fifth on a Hamilton RBI-single that scored Smith.
The Lakers are back in action Friday as they take on Brockport at 9:30am in a SUNYAC tilt and then Endicott College at 7:30pm in non-conference action.
